There was some pleasing news for Louis van Gaal – despite the draw – as Robin van Persie managed to play for just over an hour in the 1-1 draw, but failed to trouble the scorers.
He was joined in the strong team by Jonny Evans, Adnan Januzaj, Tyler Blackett, James Wilson, and Rafael. However, the talent on show was unable to prevent the home side taking the lead through Harry Panayiotou, and it would fall to 19-year-old midfielder Sean Goss to find the equaliser for the Red Devils.
Despite the disappointing score, the number of key players in action will be music to their manager’s ears. Last weekend’s defeat to Chelsea has meant that they remain one point behind second place Arsenal, but the FA Cup finalists do now have a game in hand.
Perhaps the return of former Gunners forward Van Persie will aid their pursuit of the north London outfit.
