Spurs’ midfield impresses as AVB earns vital win at Sunderland.
Hugo Lloris: 4
Dreadful mistake to gift Sunderland the opener and looked shaky throughout.
Kyle Walker: 7
Made some crucial tackles and delivered the free kick for Spurs’ equaliser.
Kyle Naughton: 6
The right-footer never looks comfortable at left back and offered very little in the final third.
Etienne Capoue: 7
A surprise inclusion at centre half in the absence of injured trio Vertonghen, Chiriches and Kaboul. But didn’t look out of position and dealt with the twin threat of Fletcher and Altidore.
Michael Dawson: 7
Like Capoue, the captain dealt with Sunderland’s physical strike-force well and made a crucial interception in the final ten minutes.
Mousa Dembele: 7
Deserves plenty of credit for the winner and Spurs always look a better side when he plays.
Paulinho: 7
The Brazilian scored the all-important equaliser and could have had a hat-trick. If his composure and finishing improve, he could be Spurs’ Aaaron Ramsey or Frank Lampard.
Aaron Lennon: 8
The flying winger has had a brilliant week and looked nearly back to best on his favoured right-side.
Lewis Holtby: 8
The midfielder’s best performance in a Spurs shirt. Linked midfield and attack and was happy to shoot on site. Could have had two or three assists on a different day.
Nacer Chadli: 7
His towering presence was beneficial at set pieces in both boxes and earned an assist for the equaliser.
Jermain Defoe: 6
The England striker was desperately unlucky to hit the woodwork twice but also wasted a number of golden chances and was static when Paulinho presented him with a tap in late on.
Subs:
Sandro: 5
Extremely fortunate not to give away a penalty within minutes of coming on.
Andros Townsend: 7
A very lively cameo which should have been rewarded with an assist.
Gylfi Sigurdsson: 6
Did little.
