Sunderland have a fairly sedate start to the new Premier League season.
Sunderland and manager Paolo Di Canio will probably be quite happy with the 2013/14 Premier League fixture list with an opening day match against Fulham at the Stadium of Light.
This tie is followed by potentially tricky, but certainly winnable, matches with Southampton and newly promoted Crystal Palace in back-to-back away fixtures.
The first big test for the Black Cats is the visit from Arsenal on September 9 before Liverpool also travel to the north east two weeks later.
A tough run-in of home matches is continued when reigning champions Manchester United come to town a week after, followed by the first Tyne-Weir derby of the year with Newcastle United making the trip to Sunderland.
Fans will have to wait until February 1 for the corresponding fixture at St James’ Park, although before the New Year Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham will all visit the city, meaning the second half of the season holds away matches for the Black Cats against all of last year’s top five.
