It’s a tale of two fortunes recently for these two IPL sides, in the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians.
After a strong start the Sunrisers have slumped in form, losing their last two games and slipping out of the play-off positions.
In contrast Mumbai have now won three fixtures in a row, including important victories over league rivals Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Both franchises have experimented with captains this year with their first choices, Kumar Sangakkara and Ricky Ponting, being rested and rotated to help improve the team.
For Mumbai Rohit Sharma – the stand-in skipper for Ponting – has looked sharp with the bat and is currently second in the standings for most sixes in 2013.
Hyderabad have struggled to find any consistency at the crease however, with none of their batsman making it into the top 20 for the Orange Cap award for most runs in the tournament.
They do have a strong bowling attack though, with ICC No.1 Test and ODI bowler Dale Steyn leading their ranks, whilst spinner Amit Mishra has been providing useful support and mopping up the tail-end on several occasions.
As for the away side, five-day veterans Harbhajan Singh and Mitchell Johnson are showing they can turn their hand to the 20-over format with 22 wickets shared equally between them.
Mumbai are looking stronger and stronger as the competition progresses whereas the Sunrisers will have to re-find their form quickly or risk missing out on the top four.
