After the match between the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals every franchise in the IPL will have played in 2014 and an idea of form can start to be established.
The 2013 tournament was positive for both these sides, with the Sunrisers coping well in their debut season after filling the spot vacated by the defunct Deccan Chargers.
Hyderabad finished fourth in IPL 6 after making the playoffs against expectations and have further strengthened this year in the auction.
As well as retaining star Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan the franchise have also bought Australians Aaron Finch and David Warner to add to the top of the order, whilst Dale Steyn and Amit Mishra are their danger with the ball.
As for Rajasthan their impressive third-place finish last campaign without having a squad full of stars was somewhat tarnished by spot-fixing allegations.
Royals players Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan were all arrested as part of the scandal and the team will be keen to put those allegations behind them.
The retirement of captain Rahul Dravid is a blow, although in replacement Shane Watson they have a skipper capable of great things in Twenty20 cricket.
Retained players from 2013 Ajinkya Rahane, Stuart Binny, Sanju Samson, James Faulkner and Brad Hodge will also have a big part to play, as will new signings Steve Smith and Tim Southee.
