Manning has said he plans on returning to the Broncos next season, the Denver Post reports. “When I stop enjoying it, when I can’t produce, when I can’t help the team that’s when I’ll stop playing,” Manning said during Sunday’s first Super Bowl press conference in New Jersey.
“If that’s next year, maybe it is. I certainly want to continue to keep playing.”
Regardless of what he says, Manning knows he needs to win another Super Bowl ring make sure there is no doubt he belongs in the top five or even top three quarterbacks to have ever played in the NFL.
Word came out recently that Manning is due to undergo a full medical exam in March, which is mandated in his contract, and that that would determine whether he would play next season.
After Sunday’s remarks, it appears that Manning is very confident that his neck will be deemed healthy enough to continue playing.
He has three years left on his Broncos’ contract, and is due $19 million in 2015 and 2016, although the Denver Post notes those salaries are not guaranteed.
But before looking to those seasons, Manning, who will try to win his second career Super Bowl on Sunday, will look to dominate against the Seahawks defence with his vision, arm-strength and ability to stay cool under pressure if the pocket does collapse, all vital in a game where every possession matters.
