The agent of Colombian striker Jackson Martinez has distanced his client from a rumored move to Roma, potentially bringing Chelsea back into the equation, reports talkSPORT.
The Porto striker, set to star for his country at this summer’s World Cup, had been linked heavily with the Serie A club, but his agent Guglielmo Lara has assured supporters a move is not imminent.
“Roma are a great club, without doubt, but Porto haven’t started any talks for a sale at this moment,” Lara told TMW.”
“The situation is critical, as Porto are concentrated only on this final stage of the season. This other issue will be evaluated later on.”
Chelsea were heavily linked with a move for the 27-year-old earlier in the season, and should the signing of no.1 target Diego Costa fall through, Martinez could be a viable alternative. He’s notched 18 in the Portuguese top flight this term, and an impressive 44 in 57 matches since arriving from South America in 2012.
