Borussia Dortmund’s Polish winger has turned down Manchester City’s money to stay with his exciting German club…
Borussia Dortmund winger Jakub Blaszczykowski, has claimed he turned down an offer from Manchester City earlier in the summer, so he could stay at the Champions League finalists.
The 27-year-old flyer was adamant that Borussia Dortmund’s project is exciting enough to turn down a big-money move to England.
“Borussia won. As I mentioned, we have a splendid team, coach, fans and exciting prospects,” he told Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy.
“Money can always be decisive, but I took many factors into account.
“It was important that my family feel very happy in Dortmund. We know the city, the people, we have friends.”
In this day and age it’s refreshing to see a footballer remain loyal when a super-rich club starts to show an interest.
It is clear that Manchester City have been looking to inject some pace down the right-hand side of the field, and obviously moved for new signing £15m Jesus Navas after Blaszczykowski spurned their advances.
The Pole has been outstanding for Borussia Dortmund over the past three seasons, but has often been overlooked in the media due to Robert Lewandoski’s goals and the flair of Mario Gotze and Marco Reus. With Gotze gone though, the Pole would be expected to again play a major role for Dortmund this season, although his team faces an enormous struggle to wrestle the title from Pep Guardiola’s star studded Bayern Munich side.
