Roy was the leading run scorer in this seasons T20 Blast. Jason Roy has been named in England’s T20 squad to face India in the one off T20 international on September 7th, BBC Sport reports.
Roy was the top batsman in this seasons T20 Blast, scoring 677 runs at an average of 48.35 for Surrey, who reached the semi-finals of the competition.
The Surrey batsman has been named in the squad despite doubts over an injury. Roy had a scan on his hand after being hit in a match against New Zealand A on Sunday. The scans have shown that Roy hasn’t broken his hand but that it’s badly bruised so it remains to be seen whether he will make his international debut at Edgbaston.
Another player who gets a call up on the back of a good season in the T20 Blast is James Taylor. The Nottinghamshire T20 captain has played two test matches for England but has yet to play in either of their limited overs sides.
All-rounder Ravi Bopara also has a place in the squad. Bopara was surprisingly left out of England’s ODI squad against India having been a regular fixture in the side for several years.
Eoin Morgan will lead the side in the absence of Stuart Broad, who is set to have surgery on his knee this week.
England T20 squad: Eoin Morgan (Middlesex, capt), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Ravi Bopara (Essex), Tim Bresnan (Yorkshire), Jos Buttler (Lancashire), Steven Finn (Middlesex), Harry Gurney (Nottinghamshire), Alex Hales (Nottinghamshire), Chris Jordan (Sussex), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jason Roy (Surrey), James Taylor (Nottinghamshire), James Tredwell (Kent), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire).
