Jets head coach Rex Ryan has had some of the worst luck in the preseason for his already diminished secondary: three of his top CBs have been either injured or suspended in the last two weeks alone.
The New York Jets have suspended CB Dimitri Patterson after being mysteriously absent for the team’s preseason game against the Giants on Friday.
Patterson was completely AWOL from the team for two straight days and finally reported in this past Sunday. While the CB has said that he is ready to return to the team, Jets GM John Idzik did not agree.
Idzik labeled the mysterious absence of Patterson “very unusual” and “baffling.”
The suspension comes just as the Jets are struggling to find bodies to start at the CB position. Starting CB Dee Milliner, the team’s No. 9 overall draft pick in 2013, suffered an ankle sprain in practice two weeks ago and rookie CB Dexter McDougle, who the team drafted in the 3rd round in 2014, torn his ACL in practice and will be out for the year.
Patterson has played 9 seasons of football with 5 different teams, most recently in 2013 when he started 4 games for the Dolphins. Patterson has been extremely injury prone in his career and has only 1 season in which he started more than 8 games.
