The Welsh side aim to upset the Reds and sign the Sporting star.
Swansea City have joined the race to sign Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel, a reported target for Liverpool, Tottenham and Marseille, according to Portuguese website A Bola.
The Swans are prepared to match the £5m bid that the Anfield outfit are set to offer Sporting, although the Portuguese club would prefer nearer to £10m in order to prize the 25-year-old away.
Yet Spurs are also in contention for the Spain international as manager Andre Villas-Boas has a strong knowledge of the Primeira Liga and is a keen admirer of Capel.
The winger has a £26m release clause in his contract, although it is unlikely any of the chasing clubs would be willing to pay that and he is contracted at the Estadio Jose Alvalade until 2016.
However, whilst Sporting are not willing to let their star leave easily they would like his pay packet off their books and therefore the Premier League trio have a realistic chance.
With a small transfer budget at the Liberty Stadium it’s unlikely manager Michael Laudrup would be able to increase his £5m offer, although Capel may be swung by a move to south Wales with the promise of first team football – something he may not get regularly at Liverpool or Spurs.
Laudrup is earning himself a reputation as a shrewd operator in the transfer market after the bargain of the 2012/13 season in £2m signing Michu; the midfielder/striker scored 22 goals in his debut season at the club.
