Midfield player has enjoyed another wonderful campaign at the Liberty.
Swansea City captain Ashley Williams says that he cannot understand why team-mate Leon Britton has not received a full England call-up yet.
The 30-year-old has enjoyed yet another eye-catching season for the South Wales outfit, but it has not been enough to catch the eye of England manager Roy Hodgson.
“I thought he should have had a call up last year and I was surprised that he didn’t. It is nothing to do with me as someone who plays for Wales, but if you ask my opinion I think he is one of the very best midfielders in the country,” Williams told the Daily Mail.
“That goes for this year and last year. How often does he have a bad game? He definitely deserves a call up.
“There aren’t a huge number of players who do what he does, and I think he deserves a call for England.
“I think he’s such a good player he could add quality to any team in the country. People might say stuff about his age, but I think anyone who watches him can see he is in the best form of his career.
“But it is tough, because playing for Swansea you don’t necessarily get the same amount of coverage. I think you do see that sometimes, that someone from a bigger club might not be having such a good season as one of ours but they get picked for England.”
