Swansea City are giving Liverpool a taste of their own medicine as the Welsh club’s chief Huw Jenkins is now believed to be wanting more than the £19 million release clause in Bony’s contract, reports the Daily Mirror.
Jenkins is angry with Bony’s representatives negotiating a deal with the Reds without his permission, and now wants to play hard to keep the Ivorian at the Liberty stadium. He is probably taking cues from the fact that Liverpool pulled off a similar trick with Luis Suarez last summer to keep him from joining Arsenal for £40 million plus one pound.
The predicament comes as a big hindrance for the Reds who are also in pursuit of Swansea’s duo of Ben Davies and Michel Vorm, and negotiations could leave a sour taste in the mouth of both teams. Some reports also suggest that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers could now focus his attention on signing Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez instead. Many believe that Rodgers will not go higher than £19 million for Bony despite his 25 goal exploits for Swansea last term, and the Reds’ move for the former Vitesse man could now collapse.
