Fittingly the Sky Blues have joined forces with travel company Webjet.
Sydney FC have announced a new kit sponsorship deal with Webjet that will net the club £1 million next season.
Despite failing to reach the A-League finals series last season the Sky Blues will see a 25 per cent increase on last season after putting pen-to-paper on the seven-figure agreement despite the travel company initially signing up for $400,000 in August 2012.
CEO Tony Pignata was the man who facilitated the partnership with Webjet, after the club played for a season without a sponsor. The 48-year-old also persuading Destination NSW and Caltex to continue their association with the club before the players jet off to Italy on Friday for a three-week training camp organised by Alessandro Del Piero.
“I was over the moon for them because they committed to us long before all this happened,” Pignata explained to Fox Sports.
“Last year turned into a fantastic opportunity for them and for us, but they came on board as an act of faith in the first place.”
Pignata admits Del Piero has played an indirect role in boosting Sydney’s commercial appeal since his arrival from Juventus last year.
“A lot of it is to do with the exposure that the companies associated with us got last season, thanks to the huge interest generated by Alessandro,” he added.
“Even now, in the middle of our off-season, Destination NSW is getting the benefit of our trip to Japan and the three-week camp in Italy, not to mention the intense coverage we get during the season itself.
“The fact that we have games beamed live back into Italy is fantastic exposure.”
