Wigan Warriors star Joe Burgess has made a decision to leave the English Super League after agreeing to join the Sydney Roosters, according to Sky Sports.
The 20-year-old winger is out of contract at the end of the season and Wigan have failed to persuade him to sign a new deal.
“We did everything we could but he wants to experience the Sydney lifestyle,” Wigan general manager Kris Radlinski is quoted as saying by Sky Sports..
Burgess, who is no relation to the South Sydney Rabbitohs’ premiership-winning brothers, is regarded as one of the best young players in the game and his signing is a massive coup for the Roosters.
He played and scored for Wigan against the Roosters in the World Club Challenge at the beginning of 2014.
Burgess went on to earn a spot in England’s World Cup squad, but did not see any playing minutes.
