The Stags remain eight points clear at the top.
Tampines Rovers coach Tay Peng Kee admits he was relieved that his side prevented Albirex Niigata from shredding their eight point lead at the S.League summit.
The top-two played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Clementi Stadium on Wednesday, in which The Stags relinquished a two goal lead to the visitors before half time and were fortunate to steal a share of the spoils after Aleksandar Duric’s 88th minute equaliser.
Although it was heart in mouth stuff during the second half for Tay, the former Singapore forward was happy to take a point and retain a healthy lead at the top with only seven rounds remaining in the campaign.
“I’m definitely relieved,” he told Fox Sports. “I think the most important thing is that we didn’t allow them [Albirex] to close the gap on us.
“It was a bit tense but, at the end of the day, the fact that we equalised clearly showed how much the boys wanted to get a result. I think that was good.
“Overall, 3-3 is probably a fair result as both teams played attacking football. I’m surprised Albirex played very well and really managed to penetrate our defence; in the last three games I watched them play they were playing exhibition football.”
