4. Early offensive struggles
Three. That’s the total number of plays – not first downs – PLAYS that the Seahawks offense ran in the first quarter. While that is in large part to the defense not getting off the field, for any offense to struggle as much as Seattle did in the first and second quarters is inexcusable. The Seahawks were completely locked down for the first 25 minutes of the game before finally getting on the board. And in a game that was bound to be a defensive struggle there was no excuse for the Seahawks to be so anemic for that long a time.
3. Fourth quarter meltdown
You have the Legion of Boom, the NFL’s No. 1 overall defense that hasn’t allowed a 4th quarter TD in what feels like forever, and they allowed not one, but two of them.
And Russell Wilson, who made a name for himself with big moments at the tail end of games with eight 4th quarter comebacks and 10 game-winning drives – including several in the playoffs – was a non-factor for almost the entire quarter, failing to find his receivers open until the final drive and culminating in the game-ending play (coming up…).
