4) Steven Gerrard (England)
Another Liverpool player who couldn’t take his fine club form with him to Brazil this summer, England captain Steven Gerrard may have played in his final tournament with the Three Lions after a disappointing couple of games against Italy and particularly against Uruguay. The 34-year-old surely needs to make way for the country’s younger talents now, with his old engine declining in his old age and his composure suspect in big international games. His mistake at the back led to Liverpool team-mate Luis Suarez firing in Uruguay’s winner in their last game, in what proved a costly moment as it put Roy Hodgson’s side’s future out of their hands.
