7) Andy Carroll (Liverpool, £35m)
Signed on the back of just 14 goals in the Premier League and tasked with replacing the departing Fernando Torres, Andy Carroll’s £35m move to Liverpool proved to be a massive error of judgement on the Reds’ part. The England international only scored 11 goals in all competitions for the Merseyside giants, and looked well off the pace with some slow and sluggish performances, as well as some glaring misses. Eventually farmed out by Brendan Rodgers, Carroll spent a season on loan at West Ham United before then making a permanent move to the club for £15m.
