4) Andriy Shevchenko (Chelsea, £30m)
Arriving at Chelsea in 2006 with the reputation as one of the best strikers in the modern era, Andriy Shevchenko never found his AC Milan form in a blue shirt, looking past his best and unable to cope with the pace of the game in the Premier League. After just 22 goals in 77 appearances and a failed loan spell back at the San Siro for a year, Shevchenko was eventually sold back to his first club Dynamo Kiev, where he enjoyed something of a swansong before retiring after Ukraine’s hosting of the 2012 European Championships. A player who would’ve been a joy to watch if he’d come to England at his peak, but one who will no doubt be remembered as a failure on these shores.
