2) Kaka (Real Madrid, £56m)
A wonderful player to watch during his time with AC Milan, Kaka briefly became the most expensive player of all time when he joined Real Madrid for £56m in 2009, though shortly afterwards that record was smashed again as the Spanish giants spent £80m on the more successful signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United. After hitting double figures in goals in five out of his six seasons at the San Siro, Kaka never managed it once in four years at the Bernabeu, spending most of his time injured and eventually finding himself out of the club’s first-team plans as he returned to Milan last season.
