5. James Milner (Manchester City)
James Milner will never let anyone down.
He comes from God’s Country (Yorkshire) and will do his utmost to perform whatever job is required by his manager – be it in central midfield, on the wing or as an auxiliary full back.
Described by Guardian writer Barney Ronay as “a man very stubbornly doing lengths of a swimming pool while a water polo match goes on all around him,” Milner will run himself into the ground for whatever the team requires.
It just might not be brilliantly exhilarating to watch.
Still, he can just about perform a stepover faster than Joe Cole.
