A promising young player initially signed by Chelsea back in 2009, the Serbian midfielder was then allowed to leave the club as they opted to spend £19m on signing eccentric Brazilian defender David Luiz from Benfica. It quickly emerged that Luiz was a flop at Chelsea while Matic developed into a fine player in Portugal. Having spent £19m to get rid of him, the Blues then spent £21m to sign him back again this January. Crazy business by the club.
