The Texans’ all-time leading receiver, Andre Johnson is apparently en route to a messy divorce with the team that drafted him in 2003.
The Houston Texans are poised to either release or trade WR Andre Johnson, and have given their all-time leading receiver permission to seek a trading partner.

Johnson, a seven-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro selection, has been with the Texans since they drafted him No. 3 overall in the 2003 NFL draft. But now at age 33 and poised to be 34 by the start of the 2015 NFL season, Johnson has been viewed as declining.
John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported that Johnson had been told that he would have a new reduced role with the Texans in 2015.
Texans gave Andre Johnson permission to seek a trade. Told him he’d have a reduced role next season. He asked to be traded or cut instead.

If no trade can’t be worked out for Johnson, he’ll be cut and free to sign with any team after 12 seasons with the Texans. — John McClain (@McClain_on_NFL) March 3, 2015
Texans didn’t discuss contract with Johnson, but if he’d returned in reduced role, he would have been asked to take less than $10.5 base.

Andrew Brandt of ESPN noted that it would be hard to find a trading partner for Johnson since the Texans have made it clear of their intention to release Johnson:
Texans to try to trade Andre Johnson or will cut him, per @McClain_on_NFL. To which every GM will say “We’ll wait until you cut him” — Andrew Brandt (@adbrandt) March 3, 2015
Johnson caught 85 passes for 936 receiving yards and 3 TDs, but his 11.0 yards/reception and 62.4 yards/game were both the lowest he had recorded since 2005.
Johnson has 1,012 career receptions for 13,597 and 80.5 yards/game – all of which are in the top 15 in NFL history and are the all-time marks in Texans history. He has led the NFL in receiving yards twice, receptions twice and yards/game three times.
