8) Klaas Jan Huntelaar – Ajax to Real Madrid – £24m in 2009
Another striker Ajax sold in January for mega money is the clinical Dutchman Huntelaar. His Real Madrid career was short lived however, and he was shipped to AC Milan for a £11m loss just six months later after an injury plagued stint in Spain.
7) David Luiz – Benfica to Chelsea – £26.5m in 2011
The Brazilian centre-back is technically composed, and has a rasping long shot on him, but has been criticised during his time in England for a lack of defensive acumen. He’s occasionally been deployed in a holding midfield role, which arguably suits him much better.
