7. Ben Thatcher – eight matches
Manchester City defender Ben Thatcher was given this ban after effectively assaulting Portsmouth midfielder Pedro Mendes.
Thatcher led with his elbow whilst “tackling” Mendes and the Portuguese was left unconscious and needing oxygen.
The Pompey man was also in hospital overnight whilst the left-back will forever be remembered for this brutal moment.
6. David Prutton – 10 matches
Another case of pushing the ref over – don’t laugh – as Southampton’s Prutton was less than impressed after being sent off against Arsenal.
Prutton’s studs up challenge received red but he sought to vent his anger at the decision with the assistant and in the melee shoved Alan Wiley.
5. Luis Suarez – 10 matches
You may well be bored of hearing about the “Chewy” Suarez jokes by now, but the fact remains that he did bite an opponent.
The striker’s nibble on Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic was the second time in his career he had pulled a similar trick and he will now face a lengthy spell watching from the stands.
4. Paolo Di Canio – 11 matches
Before he became the darling of the Stadium of Light Di Canio was another little rascal pushing officials over.
Whilst at Sheffield Wednesday the Italian reacted less than politely to being sent off and shoved Paul Alcock to the ground.
Football gaffe video makers were forever grateful as the clip of Alcock tumbling over has been exhaustively used since.
