3. Joey Barton – 12 matches
In a match best remembered for a last minute, title-deciding goal and a commentator’s scream of ‘Agueerooooo’ there was also a red card for Mr Barton.
The volatile midfielder capped off possibly his last game for QPR by elbowing Carlos Tevez, kicking Sergio Aguero and then trying to headbutt Vincent Kompany.
Nice way to try and win a game for your team Joey.
2. Vinnie Jones – six months
Now a stalwart in Guy Ritchie films Vinnie Jones was actually once a footballer.
Once when clearly in practice for his role as an onscreen hard man, Jones was banned for his voice-over on a video celebrating dangerous tackles.
The classic title called ‘Soccer’s Hard Men’ also gave budding hard men like Vinnie advice – presumably on how to squeeze Gazza’s “jacobs” for hilarious photograph opportunities.
1. Eric Cantona – nine months
Cantona is now something of a philosopher and a well respected actor and he was once a very good footballer.
Yet King Eric made the headlines for all the wrong reasons when he responded to abuse from Crystal Palace fans by performing a kung-fu kick on one of them.
The FA were less than impressed and the Frenchman effectively put himself on the sidelines for a whole season.
