10. David de Gea – Manchester United
The Spanish custodian has a case for being one of the better players under David Moyes, but he has stepped up his performances this term, and has almost singled handedly won United a bucketful of points all by himself.
9. Olivier Giroud – Arsenal
He may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but in 24 appearances this term he has bagged a respectable 14 goals. When you compare that with the 16 in 36 from last season it represents an improved ratio.
8. Nacer Chadli – Tottenham Hotspur
Chadli has been one of Tottenham’s most consistent performers in a disappointing season that should have seen them push on to make it into the Champions League. With 10 goals under his belt, he has had to do it all while grieving for his late father. Truly commendable.
7. Chris Smalling – Manchester United
Many were wondering what he was doing at the club last year, but played in the correct position, he has managed to win a new contract under Louis Van Gaal, and has witnessed a drastic improvement in his judgement and composure.
6. Eden Hazard – Chelsea
Hazard has matched his goal return of 14 from last season, but an improved showing in his passing, dribbling and decision making has seen him pick up the PFA Player of the Year award as well as being mentioned in the same breath as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
