Mario Gotze – The German Messi
He won the World Cup. ‘Nuff said, really.
Ioannis Fetfatzidis – The Greek Messi
Starting out promisingly with Olympiakos, he transferred to Serie A side Genoa where his career and jinking runs have stalled. He was more recently known for escaping with minor injuries from a car crash with two other Greek internationals.
Marco Rojas – The Kiwi Messi
On the books at Stuttgart, he is spending some time on loan with Swiss…uh…giants FC Thun. Can’t be that good as he was recently beaten by Winston Reid for the title of Maori sportsman of the year.
Walid Soliman – The Egyptian Messi
Ha! You thought Mohammed Salah was the Egyptian Messi, didn’t you?
Well, he probably is, actually. Soliman has enjoyed a successful career, but nowhere near as much as the actual Messi and at the age of 30 his best days might be behind him.
Alan Dzagoev – The Russian Messi
His stock is enormous in his native Russia, but all the hype hasn’t given any other clubs the impetus to make a move for him.
