The players who have impressed the most in Europe’s top club competition.
The Champions League heads into the fifth round of the 2013/14 competition and it’s so far been a superb tournament with a few surprises and some great performances.
Here is the best starting XI from this year’s matches.
GK – Roberto, Olympiakos: The Greeks have been a dark horse in this season’s competition and their ‘keeper has kept clean-sheets against Anderlecht and Benfica.
RB – Branislav Ivanovic, Chelsea: The defender has become one of the most reliable Blues players in the past few years and is equally comfortable at right-back or more central.
LB – David Alaba, Bayern Munich: This young Austrian is recognised as one of the best attacking full-backs and is a regular in the Bayern first team.
CB – Mats Hummels, Borussia Dortmund: The German is considered to be one of the best defenders in the world and Dortmund will do well to hold onto the 24-year-old.
CB – Marquinhos, Paris Saint-Germain: Despite being 19-years-old the Brazil international is already a regular for both the French champions and the national team.
CM – Ramires, Chelsea: It’s another Brazilian and another star from west London in midfield as the 26-year-old continues to impress on both the domestic and European stage.
CM – Thiago Motta, Paris Saint-Germain: PSG have been strong in Europe once again this term and Motta is now a vital part of their midfield creativity.
RW – Arjen Robben, Bayern Munich: As good as Franck Ribery is it’s easy to forget just how influential the Netherlands international is cutting in from the right flank with a fearsome left boot.
LW – Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid: With eight goals already in four matches this season, the team wouldn’t be complete without the almost superhuman Ronaldo.
AM – Lionel Messi, Barcelona: Despite being limited to how much game time the Argentine can play due to injury, Messi already has six goals in three matches for the Catalans.
ST – Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paris Saint-Germain: The inclusion of the Swede takes PSG’s total in this team to three, as Ibrahimovic is the second top-scorer behind Ronaldo with seven goals.
