DM: Lothar Matthaus
One of the most complete midfielders in the game. The German international could do everything, except lift the Champions League. The closest he came was in 1999 when his Bayern Munich side lost out in dramatic fashion to Manchester United.
CM: Michael Ballack
Always the bridesmaid, but never the bride. Ballack came close twice with Bayer Leverkusen (who came to be known as Bayer Neverkusen) and again with Chelsea in 2008.
CM: Patrick Vieira
One of the key ingredients to Arsenal’s invincibles side of 2004, Vieira was unable to held guide the club past Chelsea in the quarter finals that year thanks to the away goals rule. He missed out in the final with Juventus in 2006 when they lost out to Barcelona.
