The players that shone and those that could improve.
Tottenham Hotspur got their Europa League campaign under-way with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Tromso at White Hart Lane.
It was a good start for Andre Villas-Boas’ men so fanatix takes a look at the best from Spurs’ stars.
Jermain Defoe
The striker got a rare chance to start up-front instead of Roberto Soldado and made the most of the opportunity by netting twice to get Tottenham on their way.
The first was a chip over the goalkeeper and the second was a fine first time and low left-foot shot that buried itself in the bottom corner.
Christian Eriksen
After an impressive debut against Norwich City in the Premier League on Saturday, the Denmark international continued the great form into the Europa League.
Eriksen replaced the injured Moussa Dembele and started off with an accurate free-kick that someone should have got on the end of, before firing a great effort himself late on.
Lewis Holtby
The German may find first team opportunities difficult to come by with Eriksen in great form, but the 23-year-old will certainly have caught Villas-Boas’s eye with this performance.
Holtby was heavily involved in both of Defoe’e goals before being substituted for Paulinho.
Erik Lamela
It was the first time the Argentina international showed the promise that led Spurs to pay £30m for the young winger, with a deft touch and some fine skill.
Lamela played a superb through ball to directly set-up Defoe’s second and it seems the 21-year-old could possibly be a long-term Gareth Bale replacement.
Jan Vertonghen
AVB was hoping to give the Belgian a rest for this match but was forced to bring the 25-year-old on when Danny Rose picked up an injury mid-way through the first half.
Vertonghen relished in the freedom afforded by playing on the flank rather as a centre-back and showed just how good the defender is going forward.
