Gonzalo Higuain – Real Madrid to Arsenal, £23m.
Perhaps the most long-running saga of the summer has been the ‘will he, won’t he’ pantomime of Higuain’s transfer to the Gunners.
The deal looked as good as done a few weeks ago, but Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment at the Bernabeu seemed to breath new life into the striker’s career in Madrid and Arsenal have turned their attention elsewhere – Luis Suarez.
Yet Los Blancos could still foil the Suarez bid as well, meaning Higuain would be once again unwanted in the Spanish capital.
Likeliness – 4/10.
Stevan Jovetic – Fiorentina to Manchester City, £28m.
Jovetic is almost certain to leave his club this summer but where the 23-year-old’s new destination will be is still under scrutiny.
There aren’t many top clubs in Europe that haven’t been linked with the Montenegrin, but currently City are the favourites as new forwards are a must at the Etihad.
There is much hype around Jovetic although the striker’s goal-scoring record is average and his price is likely to be extremely steep.
Likeliness – 6/10.
Alvaro Negredo – Sevilla to Manchester City, £17.5m.
All signs are good for the Citizens and this deal; the club need strikers, cash-strapped Sevilla need money and have admitted Negredo could leave and relations are good between the two sides after the transfer of Jesus Navas earlier in the summer.
New City boss Manuel Pellegrini knows the 27-year-old well, having managed in Spain for the past nine years – the same amount of time Negredo has been playing first team football in the country.
With 25 La Liga goals last term there is no denying the Spaniard’s capabilities in front of goal and with just Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko as recognised strikers currently at the Etihad, could be the perfect signing.
Likeliness – 8/10.
