Manchester City and Manchester United also have to overcome two goal deficits in their respective ties, whilst Chelsea are the only English side that look certain of a quarter-final place.
However, since the competition was rebranded in 1992 there have been some superb players from the English top tier to grace European football and here are the 10 best.
10. Ruud van Nistelrooy – Manchester United
It’s one blip on the Dutchman’s career that he never actually won the tournament, but with 35 goals in just 43 matches for United in the competition the striker was certainly good enough.
