There will be some serious previous between the two coaches when the Blues take on Bayern.
The Super Cup can often be a dull affair but as Chelsea prepare to take on Bayern Munich there is plenty to play for and the tension is high between the two sides.
Firstly it will be the first time the pair have met competitively since the 2012 Champions League final – a nervy affair that Bayern dominated, but was eventually won by the Blues on penalties after a superb display from Didier Drogba.
Yet also, and perhaps more prevalent, it will be the first time rivals Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho have come up against each other since their feuding relationship whilst in charge of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The Spaniard is the only coach in world football to really push Mourinho’s buttons and even more frustratingly for the 50-year-old, has generally come out on top against the ‘Special One’s’ sides.
Currently the record between the two coaches stands at Guardiola: seven wins, Mourinho; three wins and five draws.
Yet when challenged on this the Blues boss gave an angry response and the Catalan clearly still gets under the Portuguese boss’ skin.
“Your statistics are wrong as a start. Very wrong, very wrong but I don’t want to discuss that because it’s not important. I’ll just say it’s wrong,” Mourinho was quoted in the Guardian.
“Go there and see what happened with Inter in the Champions League semi-final. The league records in Spain, the Copa del Rey in Spain, the Super Cup in Spain. You are very, very wrong.”
“You are wrong but it’s not important. It’s not me against him, it’s club against club That’s not important.”
Here are three matches that have defined the duo’s rivalry.
Inter Milan 3-1 Barcelona
Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid
Barcelona 2-2 Real Madrid
