The key areas new Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino needs to improve this summer

DefenceTottenham need defensive reinforcements this summer, with Michael Dawson among those in the current crop linked with a move away from the club this summer.

However, the first objective for Pochettino and co will be keeping hold of Jan Vertonghen – who has been widely linked with a move to Barcelona.

Spurs have declared their interest in Swansea City left-back Ben Davies, who is also a target for Liverpool, but have so far seen their approaches rebuffed.

Another Reds target, Ryan Bertrand, has also been linked. A left-back will be a priority for the North London club, while a new centre-back is also a necessity regardless of whether Vertonghen departs.

A back-up for the injury prone Kyle Walker might also be appreciated.
