The key areas new Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino needs to improve this summer

MidfieldTottenham will be looking for several of last summer’s signings to step up this season – the likes of Etienne Capoue, Nacer Chadli, Erik Lamela and Paulinho – while they’ll be hoping for more from the impressive Christian Eriksen.

They have plenty of cover already in this position, with youngster Nabil Bentaleb, Andros Townsend, Gylfi Sigurðsson, Lewis Holtby and Sandro all still on the books.

Perhaps a couple of names from that list will need to leave in order to aid recruitment in other areas.

Spurs could do with some reinforcements out wide, where Aaron Lennon is arguably the club’s only senior out-and-out winger, although the likes of Townsend, Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli all provide decent options.

Former Arsenal target Julian Draxler is among the midfielders linked with a move to White Hart Lane this summer. Saints midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is another possibility.
