Costa Rica
GK) Keylor Navas
9 – A truly incredible performance from Levante stopper Navas, who repelled the Dutch time and time again. He only loses a mark for being unable to save any of the four Dutch penalties in the shoot-out.
CB) Johnny Acosta
8 – Superb performance by Johnny Acosta, who didn’t put a foot wrong after being brought into the team for the defender sent off against Greece.
CB) Giancarlo Gonzalez
9 – The rock at the centre of the Costa Rican defence was absolutely immense, appearing out of nowhere to make a block or a tackle on numerous occasions.
CB) Michael Umana
8 – Such a shame that Umana was the man who missed the decisive penalty after another fine performance to top off a wonderful tournament for Umana.
RWB) Cristian Gamboa
8 – If anyone looked like unlocking the Dutch defender it was Gamboa, who raced clear down the right once or twice to deliver fine crosses into the area.
LWB) Junior Diaz
7) – Dealt with Robben fairly well, but unbelievably not to be sent off late on in normal time for a cynical foul on the flying Bayern Munich winger.
CM) Celso Borges
6) – A reasonable performances by Borges, who didn’t quite do enough to get up and support his frontmen when Costa Rica were under pressure.
CM) Yeltsin Tejeda
7) – Has had a fine tournament for Los Ticos, but slightly less influential tonight than he had been in previous matches.
ARM) Bryan Ruiz
6) – Unfortunate to see Tim Krul make a fine save from his shoot-out penalty, Ruiz didn’t quite do enough to cause the Dutch defence real problems over the course of the match.
ALM) Cristian Bolanos
7) – Had a good game, covering Diaz well when dealing with Robben but also getting upfield as quickly as he could to support Campbell and Ruiz.
SC) Joel Campbell
5) – Looked tired, struggled to get into the game and failed to really hold the ball up as was required. Unsurprising when he was taken off midway through the second half.
