The Three Lions face Denmark with a squad full of deadwood.
Roy Hodgson announced his 30-man England squad to play Denmark on Thursday with more than a few raising an eyebrow at a few of the names on the list.
Whilst the 66-year-old stuck with emerging talents such as Ross Barkley and Raheem Sterling – along with a debut call-up for Southampton youngster Luke Shaw – there were still many that do not deserve to be in the squad.
With the 2014 World Cup in Brazil approaching quickly, here are five players in the current squad who should not be on the plane to South America.
Tom Cleverley – Manchester United
When the midfielder told the Daily Mirror during an interview that he is a scapegoat for the Red Devils’ current problems he may well have had a point.
However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that the 24-year-old has been below par this term and whilst Cleverley may think he plays like a Spaniard, in reality the United man brings little to the team – with an inability to be creative or pass forwards and a lack of defensive grit as well.
