If there’s one area of the Three Lions side that has an abundance of talent it’s left-back and that’s why Hodgson must cut the veteran – despite the fact he is arguably the nation’s greatest ever full-back.
The 33-year-old has struggled for form and fitness at Stamford Bridge this campaign and as a result has lost his place in the Blues team to Cesar Azpilicueta – surely Shaw or Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs would be a better option?
