Who has been the best stopper this season?
A much maligned position in football is the goalkeeper, as those of you who were forced to go between the sticks at school can testify.
However, having a top stopper can often take a team from average to brilliant, as recognised by Juventus in 2001 when they paid a colossal £32m for Gianluigi Buffon.
In the Premier League there have been – and still are – some fantastic ‘keepers and those that can be considered to be among the best in the world.
So here are the five best No.1s in the English top tier this season, with statistics courtesy of Squawka.
5. Tim Howard, Everton
Performance score: 443.
Has been a stalwart at Goodison Park ever since an initial loan move from Manchester United in 2006 and is one of the league’s all-time best ‘keepers.
Since arriving on Merseyside Howard has made 338 appearances for the club in all competitions and this term has kept 10 clean-sheets.
