There were a few raised eyebrows when on transfer deadline day Roberto Martinez made the £12m commitment to the Spaniard’s former Wigan Athletic player.
Some questioned whether McCarthy could transfer the midfielder’s form for the Latics to Goodison Park, but those fears have been allayed and then some.
