5. Cristiano Ronaldo
Club: Manchester United
The league isn’t won by one man, it’s a team effort, blah blah blah – but in the 2006/07 season Ronaldo maybe didn’t win the title on his own, but United would never have won it without him.
Chelsea were on top, having achieved back-to-back successes under Jose Mourinho and the Red Devils were looking second best; step forward Ronaldo.
An obviously talented winger when he first arrived at Old Trafford in 2003, the Portugal international was criticised for too many step-overs and not enough end product, but went onto become one of the most deadly attackers in football history.
Ferguson helped get this out of Ronaldo, who the forward still considers a father figure and the 28-year-old scored 84 Premier League goals in 196 matches, won three titles and made a world record £80m switch to Real Madrid in 2009.
