9. Wayne Rooney/Carlos Tevez/Cristiano Ronaldo – Manchester United
Quite possibly one of the world’s finest attacking trio’s of the past few years. They formed the end product of the last scariest and strongest United side in the Premier League and helped the club to cock up their second long awaited Champions League victory back in 2008. Sadly, they fell apart way too soon, and now only Rooney remains with the club as they continue to struggle in the wake of Sir Alex Ferguson’s exit.
8. Fabio Cannavaro/Gianluigi Buffon/Marco Matterazzi – Italy
The defensive trifecta proved all the old adages of Italians and defensive football were true in 2006 when they joined forces to pick the national team up off the floor in the wake of the Calciopoli scandal. Originally Alessandro Nesta was due to start, but the Milan ace suffered another ill-timed injury early on, and was forced to make way for the man they call Matrix. However, Matterazzi proved invaluable as he scored the goal that took the side to the penalty shootout in the final against France before netting the winning spot kick.
