We nearly selected Chelsea’s John Terry at centre-back here, such is the brilliant season he’s having under Jose Mourinho, but the towering German centre-back has been more consistently effective over the past few years. Hummels is practically unbeatable in the air, but also provides a calming relaxed influence in defence.
