With all the news currently surrounding Willian’s impending move, the former Barcelona striker is being added as a makeweight.
Jose Mourinho is soon to be reunited with one of his most formidable players – Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o is set to join Chelsea for just £2m.
Whilst Willian may have stolen the headlines following his dramatic u-turn from North to West London, according to the Telegraph he won’t be the only Anzhi man headed to Stamford Bridge.
Anzhi’s recent footballing asset-stripping has all been a part of billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov’s plan to slash expenses. What better way to do so than by selling the world’s highest paid player?
Even at 32-years-old, £2m seems a snip for a player who has scored double-figures in the league for the past 11 seasons. However, Eto’o’s wages truly are astronomical – the Cameroonian currently makes a jaw-dropping £35.7m a year at Anzhi. Simply removing him from their wage bill for six months will yield savings far exceeding a more realistic transfer fee.
Whilst a contract has not been disclosed as of yet, it is though to be closer to the £4m per year mark. Eto’o is willing to take such a dramatic pay cut for one last chance to win trophies under his favourite manager.
Together at Inter Milan the two were instrumental in the Italian club’s greatest season ever, winning the treble in 2010.
Upon Eto’o’s arrival at Chelsea, it is more than likely that one of their three current strikers will be shown the exit. Demba Ba is thought to be sought after by Malaga CF whereas young Romelu Lukaku could leave on loan.
