Cavani Heading To Gay Paris
Whilst I’m more than loathe to confirm anything as a ‘done deal’ until I’ve seen the player in question charging around on the pitch in a competitive match for said team, Edinson Cavani to PSG is looking more and more solid. Why? Seemingly no one else is a daft enough to pay the rather inflated fee. Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid appear to be browsing elsewhere and it looks like Cavani will hook up with his old pal Ezequiel Lavezzi in Paris. Rather more interesting is how Zlatan Ibrahimovic will take to the news – he’s not one to be side-lined as the main attraction and is far from adverse to club hopping. Zlatan to Real? Purely gently titillating speculation in my own mind, but crumps that would be fun, no?
Villa DEFINITELY On His Way To Spurs…
Winding all the way back to Monday we’re going to take a little look at the Mirror’s rather brash claim that Spurs and Barcelona had agreed in principle to sign David Villa with negotiations over the £8.6 million asking price the only thing stopping him arriving ‘as early as this week’. What happened less than 24 hours later? He went and signed for Atletico Madrid for an initial £4.4 million. Good to see pretty much every British paper was so on the ball with this one… At the risk of sounding impossibly smug (I am), we discussed why Villa for Spurs didn’t make sense last week in this fine column.
Dazza Bent Going For Thruppence?
After enduring a ‘season from hell’ where Paul Lambert decided that Christian Benteke was ‘the man’ and that Darren very much wasn’t, the journeyman (sorry Darren…) poacher looks to be on his way again. The Sun reckon that the 29 year old would cost as little as £5 million (which sounds very reasonable to me) and that Newcastle, Fulham and Hull are interested. The fact that Alan Pardew has confirmed his interest and that the Toon are probably the biggest club Bent can realistically hope to join this summer means, this is one worth following. Will his ties to Sunderland hinder such a move? Probably not if it’s a straight shoot out between playing for Hull or copping a bit of flack during the Tyne/Wear derby. Fulham, considering the fact the they have Dimi Berbatov making a sizeable dent in their thrifty wage bill will likely be priced out one would imagine. Remember when, prior to an ankle ligament injury, Bent was a dead cert to spearhead England at Euro 2012? How the mighty fall/get usurped by physically superior Belgians.
