The Belgian is out for at least a month and Pellegrini wants recruits.
Manchester City have confirmed the news that captain Vincent Kompany will be out for at least a month and as a result the club may be looking for defensive alternatives.
With Mateja Nastasic also sidelined for a significant amount of time, here are three players fanatix thinks City should be looking at.
Eliaquim Mangala
Club: FC Porto.
Age: 22.
Likely cost: £42.4m.
City would have to break the bank to sign the talented Frenchman as Porto have said they will only open negotiations if the centre-back’s release clause is met.
That being said at 22-years-old Mangala already has plenty of experience in the Champions League and Europa League and has broken into the France national team.
Kyriakos Papadopoulos
Club: Schalke 04.
Age: 21.
Likely cost: £16m.
The young Greek centre-back has been making a big name for himself in the Bundesliga and has attracted the likes of Liverpool in the past.
A serious knee injury has kept Papadopoulos out of action since last November though so signing the defender would be a huge risk.
Pepe
Club: Real Madrid.
Age: 30.
Likely cost: £20m.
Pepe is the oldest of the trio by some way and would not be a signing for the future as supposed to an immediate impact.
The Portuguese defender has bags of experience at the highest level on both the international and domestic stage and currently has two La Liga medals to the 30-year-old’s name.
Pepe also played under City manager Manuel Pellegrini for a season in 2009/10.
