Whilst before, the excuse would have been that the 25-year-old simply wasn’t getting enough game time to show his full potential, the fact is that even though now he is playing on a regular basis, Cleverley is still unable to impress at the top level.
In 26 appearances for Aston Villa this season, Cleverley has spectacularly failed to notch one goal or one assist onto his record. A quite spectacular and boggling statistic given his role in the Villa side at the heart of the action in central midfield.
