Tight end has told reporters that he is back for another run at a Super Bowl title.
After months of speculation, Tony Gonzalez has confirmed that he will return to the Atlanta Falcons for a 17th season in order to win a Super Bowl.
The 37 year-old told Fox Sports reporter Jay Glazer that he will come back for one more year, and will only play for Atlanta.
“After discussing it with my family and really, truly struggling with this decision I informed the Falcons, I would like to return for one more shot,” Gonzalez said.
“Considering how this season ended, I wanted to give it another run with Matt (Ryan), Smitty (head coach Mike Smith) and the guys we have in there. It was the first time I had won a playoff game and hopefully coming back once more we can take it one step further.”
The tight end seems to be ageless, and despite having played for 16 years in the league, he continues to produce numbers in receptions and yards that consistently have him in the top five for his position.
A constant target inside the redzone, Gonzalez will be key for the Falcon’s attempts at lifting the Vince Lombardi trophy next February. While he will command a high salary, the team will know that they have secured one of the the greatest tight ends of all time for another season.
